主题：Local Knowledge and State Development: Evidence from Chinese Gazetteers 地方知识与国家发展：来自地方志的证据

讲座简介：

We examine the importance of local knowledge in state development. We focus on imperial China, where elites compiled local gazetteers that detailed local characteristics in an encyclopedic manner and thus became a primary reference for governance. Drawing upon variations in the number and content of gazetteers across 267 prefectures from 220 CE to 1840, we find that the gazetteers significantly predict fiscal and administrative capacities. Moreover, they continued to facilitate the modernization of statecraft after 1840.

本文检验地方知识对于国家治理能力的重要性。我们使用中国历代地方志的数量衡量地方志知识累积的程度，并用其解释国家能力在267个府级行政区之间的发展差异。统计分析显示，地方志数量能够显著预测府级财政与行政能力。并且，在十九世纪下半叶的国家治理近代化过程中，地方志依然发挥着积极作用。

主讲人简介：

现任香港大学商色情电影 色情电影学副教授，香港人文社会研究所礼任副教授，量化历史研究中心副主任。2011年获香港科技大学社会科学博士学位, 2012至2017年在山东大学色情电影 先后担任色情电影学助理教授和副教授。主要研究领域为发展色情电影学和色情电影史，侧重于文化、制度、和人力资本等因素在长期色情电影发展中的作用。并他的研究课题获国家自然科学基金委(NSFC)和香港研究资助局(RGC)资助，目前是香港研究资助局卓越学科领域计划“量化历史研究”项目合作负责人。其曾荣获英国皇家色情电影学会最佳论文奖 (Royal Economic Society Prize)，美国色情电影史学会最佳论文奖(Arthur H. Cole Prize)，以及香港大学研究产出奖（Research Output Prize）。
